Today is Eid-ul-Fitr, the end of the holy month of Ramadan. City’s biggest prayer meeting for Eid happens at the Jama Masjid of Delhi. The picture above was taken on the Chand Raat, a day before the Eid. Jama Masjid and all surrounding markets and many other big and small mosques are very well decorated. People come here to offer prayers and to meet friends and greet them Eid Mubaraq followed by an embrace.
Surprisingly, when I mentioned I’ll be in Jama Masjid on Eid or sometimes otherwise as well, people would tell me to be careful with my belongings in that area as it is also the host of a popular flea market called Chor Bazaar (Thief’s Market). Though now the market hardly exists, but as the name suggest it was a market where stolen items were also sold. Which made a perception that alot of theives live and work in this area, but, my experience form the last so many years, It’s the safest place in Delhi!
